Sacred Heart Field Hockey Coach Eleanor Mitchell Named Coach of the Year

Coach Eleanor Mitchell, who has coached five state championship field hockey teams at Sacred Heart Academy (2015, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2025) has been named the Kentucky Field Hockey Coach of the Year.

Sacred Heart’s field hockey team defeated Christian Academy 3-1 on October 29, becoming the first program in the sport’s KHSAA history to go undefeated for an entire season and win the state championship.

The win is SHA’s 13th state title for field hockey, and fifth since field hockey was sanctioned by the KHSAA in 2014. SHA field hockey is one of the Top 5 girls field hockey programs in the country, with the team finishing the season 28-0-1. SHA senior AC Kosek was named 2025 Kentucky Miss Field Hockey and the Morgan & Morgan state tournament MVP.

Mitchell, a 2004 Sacred Heart Academy graduate, is also the Ursuline Environmental Education Program Director at Sacred Heart Schools. She played field hockey at SHA and at Davidson College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree, and she has a Master of Arts in Community Health from the University of Louisville. She also holds the prestigious National Board Certified Teacher title in science—adolescence and young adulthood.

Sacred Heart Academy’s athletic program is nationally ranked as the #1 Best All-Girls High School for Athletes in Kentucky and the #35 ranked Best High School for Athletes in America by Niche, out of 21,469 high schools. Sacred Heart Academy is also ranked the #1 Best Catholic High School and Best All-Girls High School in Kentucky.
