Sacred Heart college counselor Laura Rich Receives University of Notre Dame's Golden Guide Award

Congratulations to college counselor Laura Rich, who has been honored by the University of Notre Dame with the prestigious Golden Guide Award for excellence in advising students in the college search and application process.

Each year, the University of Notre Dame welcomes compassionate, dedicated, and mission-driven students to campus. A Sacred Heart Academy student had the opportunity to nominate an educator whose intentional guidance and care played a significant role in her education and impacted her future at ND. One of Mrs. Rich's students remarked:

"Mrs. Rich has truly been the greatest gift to me throughout the college application process. She always greets us with a smile and sends us encouragement, especially when we are overwhelmed and anxious. Truly, there are not sufficient words to express how thankful I am for her!"

Laura is originally from Marietta, GA, and earned her B.A. in Art History with a minor in Music Performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She went on to complete her M.Ed. in Counseling at the University of St. Thomas in Texas.

Her career in education began as an Admissions Ambassador during her undergraduate years at UNC, later leading to her role as an Admissions Officer at the University of Texas at Austin, where she reviewed thousands of applications each cycle. Over the past 15 years, Laura has served as both a college counselor and Associate Director at private schools in Houston, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia, while working as a private college counseling consultant.

In 2024, Laura joined the SHA Counseling team. Together with Erin Burke '92, this dynamic duo advises juniors and seniors, helping them make sense of the college admissions process, assisting with applications, and helping find a "just right" college fit for the student and her family. The SHA College Counseling office welcomes college admissions officers from around the country, hosts Lunch and Learns with alumnae throughout the year, holds Common App and resume workshops, and offers robust programs such as Camp College and College Kickoff for students. Notably, the Class of 2025 earned over $38 million in scholarships and was accepted in 164 colleges. Follow along on their active Instagram page (@shacollegecounseling).

Congratulations, Laura!
