Basketball Coach Donna Moir Named Kentucky Girls Basketball Coach of the Year

Sacred Heart Academy basketball head coach Donna Bender Moir '79 has been named Kentucky Girls Basketball Coach of the Year by The Courier Journal. The Valkyries defeated Bullitt East 64-46 to win the KHSAA State Championship for the second straight year, and their sixth title overall. Both accomplishments are state records. Sacred Heart is the only team in KHSAA history to win six girls' state championships: 1976, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2021, 2022. Coach Donna Moir has been a part of all six titles, as a player and as a coach. In each of her five coaching wins, she has been named Coach of the Year.

As the head basketball coach, Moir became the first woman in the state to win the basketball championship as a player (1976) and as a coach (2002, 2003, 2004, 2021). Coach Moir is a member of the KY High School Basketball Hall of Fame, the Metro Athletic Directors Hall of Fame, the KY Athletic Hall of Fame, the Louisville Catholic Sports Hall of Fame, and the Valkyrie Hall of Fame. She was also recently honored as the 2019-20 NATIONAL Girls Basketball Coach of the Year and the 2020-21 State Girls Basketball Coach of the Year. Moir is also the Athletic Director at Sacred Heart Academy, leading an athletics program that has won 102 state championships as of March 2022.
