Finding the Artist in You
Whether it’s focused or elective, you’ll find art classes that spark your creativity.

At SHA, there are so many ways to engage and strengthen your artistic abilities. The performing and visual arts programs allow you to find your voice, express yourself and showcase your creativity.

Visual Arts
Every student at SHA takes at least one visual arts class but can choose to take art all four years. The art wing is equipped with everything you need to expand your talents and create masterpieces. It includes three full-time art teachers, three mixed media studio art rooms, two ceramic studios, two Skutt kilns and 11 pottery wheels, a photography studio with seven dark room enlargers, backdrops and studio lighting for photography shoots, six Bernia sewing machines for jewelry and accessory design, an art Gallery and new media exhibit space and an art book and periodical collection.

You can commit to our four-year IB Art Program or experience a variety of art electives including jewelry design, painting, photography, ceramics and sculpture.

If you’re interested in graphic design, computer animation, video production, and digital photography, classes are available through our Business, Communications, and Technology department.

Performing Arts
The performing arts department offers a variety of courses and co-curricular opportunities for young performers. Our students perform at the Ursuline Arts Center on campus or in regional and national competitions throughout the year.

Sacred Heart Academy's choral program has a long tradition of excellence offering three choirs for promising vocalists. Bel Canto Choir is an ensemble designed for freshmen interested in joining our choral department and performs in all major choral concerts throughout the school year. A Cappella is a 60-member ensemble designed for students who love to sing and want to develop their choral and music skills further. Madrigals is the most advanced choir at SHA. This 15-member group is for gifted singers and utilizes the stylistic techniques of the Renaissance period.

If you are interested in a focused study of vocal music the four-year IB Music Certificate program prepares you for the professional world of performing arts. In addition, we offer performing arts electives including a survey of performing arts, music theory, piano, and introduction to dance or acting.

SHA students may participate in two musical theatre productions each year. Each musical is produced in cooperation with Sacred Heart School for the Arts and is performed in the 500 seat Ursuline Arts Center on campus.
