Finding the Artist in You
Whether it’s focused or elective, you’ll find art classes that spark your creativity.

At SHA, there are so many ways to engage and strengthen your artistic abilities. The performing and visual arts programs allow you to find your voice, express yourself and showcase your creativity.

Visual Arts
Every student at SHA takes at least one visual arts class but can choose to take art all four years. The art wing is equipped with everything you need to expand your talents and create masterpieces. It includes three full-time art teachers, three mixed media studio art rooms, two ceramic studios, two Skutt kilns and 11 pottery wheels, a photography studio with seven dark room enlargers, backdrops and studio lighting for photography shoots, six Bernia sewing machines for jewelry and accessory design, an art Gallery and new media exhibit space and an art book and periodical collection.

You can commit to our four-year IB Art Program or experience a variety of art electives including jewelry design, painting, photography, ceramics and sculpture.

If you’re interested in graphic design, computer animation, video production, and digital photography, classes are available through our Business, Communications, and Technology department.

Performing Arts
The performing arts department offers a variety of courses and co-curricular opportunities for young performers. Our students perform at the Ursuline Arts Center on campus and in regional, national, and international events throughout the year.

Sacred Heart Academy's choral program has a long tradition of excellence offering three choirs for promising vocalists and SHA's choirs have traveled and performed in Italy and Ireland in the last two years.

  • Bel Canto Choir is an ensemble for freshmen interested in joining our choral department and performing in all major choral concerts throughout the school year.
  • A Cappella is a 60-member ensemble designed for students who love to sing and want to develop their choral and music skills further.
  • Madrigals is the most advanced choir at SHA. This smaller group is for gifted singers and utilizes the stylistic techniques of the Renaissance period.

SHA's robust theatre program produces two full-scale musicals each year for SHA students interested in musical theatre. Each musical is produced in cooperation with Sacred Heart School for the Arts and performed in the 500-seat Ursuline Arts Center on campus. In addition to acting opportunities, SHA students are members of the set-building, lighting and tech crews for each performance.

UPAC is a rigorous, pre-professional after-school program offering high school students a scope and sequence of training in the performing arts. Our program is committed to providing a space for young artists to explore their creative potential within a framework of encouragement, and artistic excellence.  UPAC is dedicated to preparing students for GSA, community theatre and post-secondary education.  We believe in  developing the next generation of performing artists and audiences. We are equally committed to nurturing a generation of artists with character.
We believe that what we do (orthopraxy) should reflect what we believe (orthodoxy) and that art can be a redemptive gift to culture.
