Sacred Heart Students Receive 25 Scholastic Art Awards

The Scholastic Art and Writing Award competition is one of the most competitive and prestigious high school art competitions in the nation. Twelve students have won 25 total regional awards in 2024: 

Gold Key: Calla Wissing, Maya Rawlins, Ella Risimini, Maggie Smith, Chloe Baker (awarded two Gold Keys)
Silver Key: Calla Wissing (awarded two Silver Keys), Maya Rawlins, Ella Risimini, Maggie Smith (awarded two Silver Keys), Chloe Baker (awarded three Silver Keys)
Honorable Mention: Allyson O'Bryan, Ella Risimini, Eva Carias (awarded two honorable mentions), Madi Cox, Lucia Rodriguez Agusti (awarded two honorable mentions), Abby Potter, Margaret Wright, Liu Barmore (not pictured)

Our six Gold Key winning works will be on exhibition at Kentucky Museum for Art and Craft. The nine Silver Key and ten Honorable Mention artworks are put on exhibition at the University of Louisville galleries. This spring, Gold Key winning artworks move on to national judging in New York City. 
 

Every student at SHA takes at least one visual arts class but can choose to take art all four years. Our art wing is equipped with three full-time art teachers, three mixed media studio art rooms, two ceramic studios, two Skutt kilns and 11 pottery wheels, a photography studio with seven dark room enlargers, backdrops and studio lighting for photography shoots, six Bernia sewing machines for jewelry and accessory design, an art gallery and new media exhibit space and an art book and periodical collection.

SHA offers a four-year IB Art Program as well as art electives including jewelry design, painting, photography, ceramics and sculpture. The Business, Communications, and Technology department offers graphic design, computer animation, video production, and digital photography classes.
