Congratulations to seniors Abby Rutledge, Erin McLarney, Isabella Yochum and Verity Brown, who have been named as Commended Students by the National Merit Corporation.
These students join the six Sacred Heart seniors already named National Merit Semifinalists, brining the total of recognized students to ten. Julia Ceresa, Lauren Ceresa, Shelby Davis, Lucy Dixon, Grace Guernsey and Arianna Martinelli are the 2021 National Merit Semifinalists.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
These scholars hope to join the 244 Valkyries who have been named National Merit Finalists since 1957.
