One hundred. And counting.
That’s how many KY State Championships Sacred Heart Academy’s teams have won since 1963. So far this year, the Valkyries have won two titles, and the year is not (even halfway) complete.
The school’s 100th State Championship was won by the SHA Dance team when it captured the KHSAA title on December 12, 2021, at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, KY. The team won the Pom division and captured second place in the Jazz competition. The SHA field hockey team won their state championship title back in October.
“It’s a pretty special time to be a part of Sacred Heart,” said Athletic Director Donna Moir. “Even with Covid canceling several state tournaments in 2020, we have still earned titles in basketball, dance, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swim and dive, and tennis in the last three years. I’m not sure how many schools can say that.”
Sacred Heart Academy began its state-championship trek in 1963 with a swim and dive team win and has now won state championships in 13 of 15 sports offered at the school. It is the only all-girls high school in the state to achieve 100 titles and one of the only girls’ schools in the nation to do so.
