Sacred Heart Academy Lacrosse Team Wins Kentucky Interscholastic Lacrosse League Championship

Sacred Heart Academy’s varsity lacrosse team defeated Eastern High School in the Kentucky Interscholastic Lacrosse League Championship with a final score of 8-7. When severe weather postponed the Thursday night game with 4:43 left to play and the score tied at 7-7, a final match was set for Saturday morning.

Sacred Heart’s Lily Terrell scored the game-winning goal with 1:34 remaining in the game, and the Valkyries fought to hold on to the lead. Sacred Heart knocked off four-time defending champion Kentucky Country Day in the semifinals. The win is the school’s fourth Kentucky Interscholastic Lacrosse League Championship and their first since 2014. Sophomore Julia Jardina was named the State Tournament MVP.

Players will present the championship trophy to Athletic Director, Donna Moir at a pep rally scheduled for 2:20 today in Sacred Heart’s gym. It is the fourth state championship title for the school this year following field hockey, soccer and swim and dive, and its 90th of all time.
