Sacred Heart Academy Student Honored With Unsung Hero Award

The award is intended to honor students who perform selfless service out of the limelight. SHA faculty member Derrick Staton had this to say of his choice to nominate Glaser, “Margaret is the epitome of what it means to be a Rotarian. She is concerned about truth, fairness, goodwill, and benefitting all. She is passionate about working in her community and dedicates her time to helping others. She never seeks out recognition and is the definition of humility.”

According to the Louisville Rotary Club, the Unsung Hero program reflects Rotary's focus on education, one of six areas of focus for this international service organization. Each Unsung Hero receives a $250 award, a package of gift certificates to an array of Louisville attractions and a commemorative certificate. From the entire pool of Unsung Heroes finalists, ten students who plan to enroll at a local university are selected to receive a one-time $500 scholarship. Five universities in Kentucky match the Unsung Heroes scholarships. In addition, thanks to the generosity of long-time Rotarian Theodore Buerck, the Rotary Fund of Louisville - the charitable arm of the Rotary Club of Louisville - awards a $2000 scholarship to two Unsung Heroes who plan to attend a local post-secondary institution.
