Thank YOU for identifying and nominating a worthy candidate for a SHA Alumnae Award. Our Alumnae and School community appreciate you. 

 

History of SHA Alumnae Awards: In 1981, Sacred Heart Academy recognized the first SHA Alumna of the Year. The program evolved over the years to include the Valkyrie Hall of Fame (Athletics), Honorary Diploma, Heart Award, and the Ursuline Teaching Legacy Award. The Awards shine a light on both the women and men in our SHA community who are living out the Ursuline core values of Leadership, Service, Community and Reverence

All candidates selected will be honored at the SHA Alumnae Awards Celebration in February 2025.

Alumna of the Year
This award of highest honor, given annually, recognizes an alumna with a demonstrated connection to Sacred Heart Academy, who has contributed significantly to her community by enriching the lives of those around her. This alumna’s accomplishments bring distinction to the school and model the Ursuline core values of leadership, service, community, and reverence.

Heart Award
This award, given annually to a woman or man, honors the Ursuline core value of service and recognizes Sacred Heart Academy graduates or individuals who prioritize the needs of SHA and have devoted a tremendous amount of time to SHA.

Honorary Diploma
This award, the highest honor given annually to a non-alumna (male or female), recognizes an individual whose life and achievements serve as examples of SHA’s aspirations for its students and exemplify the Ursuline core values of leadership, community, service and reverence, and who live the spirit of a true Valkyrie.

Ursuline Teaching Legacy Award
Established in 2008, this award honors the Ursuline Sisters’ 150th anniversary of teaching in Louisville. Given annually to an alumna with 20 or more years of dedicated teaching experience, this award honors an educator who displays a passion for teaching, creates enthusiasm for learning among her students, demonstrates innovative methods for student success, exemplifies the Ursuline core values of leadership, community, reverence and service and like St. Angela Merici, sees each person as an individual.

Valkyrie Hall of Fame
This award is given to a former SHA athlete, team, or coach (living or deceased) who performed with excellence in a varsity sport, and shows true sportsmanship to family and community then, and throughout their life. Alumnae/team candidates for this award must be at least a 10-year graduate, and coaches must have been active for at least 5 years.

Selection Process

SHA Alumnae Awards: The President of Sacred Heart Schools, SHA Alumnae Director, Principal and Alumnae Board selection committee review all nominations for the awards and make selections. 

Valkyrie Athletic Hall of Fame: The SHA Athletic Director, Principal and Valkyrie Athletic Hall of Fame selection committee review all nominations for Hall of Fame awards. No more than three alumnae and one team annually will be honored.
