Leading with Heart: 21 Valkyries Accepted to 2024 Governor's Scholars Program, Governor's School for the Arts, Governor's School for Entrepreneurs Programs

Sacred Heart Academy is thrilled to congratulate the 21 outstanding Valkyries selected to participate in the 2024 Governor’s Scholars Program, Governor’s School for the Arts, and Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs. The rising juniors and seniors will join hundreds of top-tier students from across Kentucky for a summer leadership experience like no other.

The Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP) is a summer collegiate residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky. Founded in 1983, the GSP prepares Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders to grow their leadership abilities and find their passion to create a strong Kentucky. SHA’s lucky 13 students will reside at either Centre College, Morehead State University, or Murray State University for an intensive learning experience that focuses on leadership development, in-depth study in a chosen discipline, and community problem solving.

Our six Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) candidates represent multiple art disciplines—vocal music, drama, visual arts, creative writing, and musical theater. We are proud of their outstanding creativity and talent. The Governor’s School for the Arts has hosted talented Kentucky students for a three-week immersive residential arts program for nearly 40 years. The GSA taps top artistic talent and hones their disciplines to levels that attract top collegiate scholarship opportunities. Student artists in this highly competitive program engage in studies across nine disciplines, including Architecture + Design, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Film + Photography, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, Visual Art, and Vocal Music.

Leadership and entrepreneurship are well represented by two talented students who are eager to change the world. The Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE) empowers Kentucky students who show entrepreneurial passion and drive to be future leaders in business for the Commonwealth. Kentucky was one of the first states to create a Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs and since its founding in 2013, more than 900 students have helped launch more than 30 businesses and have filed multiple patents.
